Report

So having just lost two fixtures to Purton and WHSmiths Winterbourne were looking for a win to get them back on track. So a top of the table clash was probably not the order of the day with key personnel still missing from Glastonbury. Having not lost the toss but not won it either Wroughton reluctantly decided to bat with a few people short. It didn't take long as McMeeking skied one to mid off were the able fielder Nick Clarke took a good catch in the deep. Pete Dobbells first over was the start of things to come beating the batsman all over and only conceding 1 run. Ian continued and was more expensive than normal but still managed to pick up another wicket and finished with figures i could only dream of. Pete from the other end however was still unplayable and he finished with great figures of 5 overs 3 wickets for 8 runs. First change was Nathan and when he finally got into his rythem started taking wickets. Phil the second change bowler also bowled well taking 1 for 10 as Wroughton scraped to a weak total of 72 for 6.

Ordinarily this would have been a weak total but for the loss of a couple of key batsman Winterbourne were not as strong as usual. Both Nick and Wayne strode to the crease and there was no way that Nick was going to run Wayne out for the third week in a row. Wayne had other ideas though and nearly ran himself out on two occasion as Winterbourne got off to a good start putting on 30 before Wayne was caught in the 6th over. Next in was Pete Mathews and with a quickfire 8 from 4 ball injected the pace into the winterbourne batting until he was bowled. 39 for 3. In came Andy Dodson and he and Nick took the score past 50 before a change of Line by Stratford had Nick Playing on for 29. Next in was Nathan and he and Andy put on a few before Andy was caught. 63 for 4. With less than 10 required from 3 Nathan got himself out and it was left to Veteran Des Clarke to finish the Innings off with Dave Harbunowicz with 2 overs to spare. Good comeback Winterbourne All round good display and great bowling dare i say it from Dobbin. :-)
