Report

So on a lovely sunny evening, Winterbourne Won the toss and elected to field. With the absence of work horse Dobbell with injury, the opening bowling pair were Ian and Dave Slivanu, the later a recent addition to our squad. Both bowlers were bowling well especially Dave who was genuinely quick on this fast Winterbourne surface. With McMurray in for Wanborough he stole runs and extras to all parts and kept the score ticking along. Ian was wicketless from his 5 overs but was Economical. Dave was slightly more expensive but had claimed the scalp of one of the Wanborough openers. First change was Nathan who unfortunately got some tap from the inform McMurray finishing his 3 overs wicketless for 37 runs. Lee Snazzell at the other end however proved to be in good touch taking 1 wicket for 14 runs from 2 overs. Mcmurray was not out for 56 as Wanborough finished with a flourish scoring 141 from their 15 overs with 37 extras being conceded by Winterbourne.

So with a good score to chase down at just fewer than 10 per over Winterbourne took to the field with the elevated hard hitting Pete Matthew’s and Nick Clarke. Nick immediately off the mark. Pete however was not his usual hard hitting self and only 3 runs came off the 1st over. Things improved in the second over but it was not until the last delivery that Nick managed to hit the boundary ball 10 from 2. Sensing the need to score quick runs Pete was bowled 1st ball of the 3rd over trying to score 4. Next in was Pete Martin who took a while to get going and again it was not until the final ball of the over that Nick hit a 4. 17 off 3. Stacey's 4th over was very tight and only conceded 3 runs. 20 off 4. With the run rate increasing things were slipping away until a productive 5th over yeilded 15 runs. 35 off 5. 106 off 80 balls. at just over 10 runs an over. First change to the bowling attack saw the spinner Clarke on. his first over conceding just 6 runs. 9 came from the next over and Winterbourne moved on to 58 from 8. Unfortunately running with Nick had taken its toll on Pete Martin who had twinged his hamstring and so deciding to retire. Girffiths final over went for 10 68 from 9. another 9 run over and Winterbourne were upto 77 from 10 with both bats man set Winterbourne required 65 from 40 balls. at 13 runs an over. 12 runs came off the 11th Nick hitting 2 4s off the first two balls, however Stacey hit back by claiming two wickets towards the end. 100 off 12. 41 off 3. So with Father and son at the crease and the pressure on they managed a good over scoring 16 runs to bring the total up to 116 off 13. still 26 from 16 required. 12 came from Clarke first 6 balls and then disaster Des was bowled trying to run the ball down to third man and Lee went next ball giving the bowler a simple caught and Bowled chance. 128 for 6 from 14. so the equation simple 14 from 8 and who should come back in. The injured retired Pete Martin with his able bodied runner Wayne. Nick was on strike and got 2 off the first delivery and the same off the second. He then dispatched the third ball to the fence and suddenly the equation was different 6 off 5 required. Next ball went for a single and this brought Pete Martin back on strike. The ball managed to miss everything including the gloves of the wicket keeper and Nick stole a bye. 4 required off 3. Nick hit another two and it was 2 from 2. With the field coming in Nick hit the penultimate ball for 2 more as Winterbourne finished 142 for 6 from 14.7 overs. Nick finished unbeaten on 71 and Pete 21.
Another great game lads, not to bad a day in the field but yet again we showed that we can chase any total down. :-)
