Report
On a Humid evening at Winterbourne, Stratton won the toss and elected to Bat. On a slow wicket the Winterbourne bowlers
Started very well with both Ian and Nathan bowling good lines and lengths. Nathan was the first to strike in the third over by
bowling their opener. Ian was the next in action when frustration forced the batsman to play in the air, where the fully stretched Pete
Martin took a good catch to give Ian his first wicket of the day. Ian finished with great economical figures of 5 over, 1 for 15.
Nathan finished with 5 overs, 1 for 25. This left Stratton in trouble on 41 for 2 off 10 overs. (great bowling you two) Unfortunately
all their hard work looked to be undone as James Horton first over went for 9. This followed by Phils first over for 13. James in his second
over went for a whopping 23. At this point Ian was ranting and raving about all his hard work being undone.
Phils obviously heard this, and his second over was much better taking a wicket and restricting the visitors to less than a run a ball. Nick Bowled
the final over and went for a dismal 12. (Obviously wanting a few more runs to chase) Stratton finished on 105- 4.
This was about 20 more than they should have scored and was it going to come back to haunt us.
So with a challenging 105 runs to get at about 7 runs an over the openers Nick and Wayne strode nervously to the crease. Things were going
well as 19 runs were scored off the first two overs, before Wayne was well stumped for 3. 22 for 1. Next in was Pete who didn't
hang around either also being bowled for 3. 31 for 2. Nick and James continued to work the ball into the gaps and taking suicide single to keep
the scoreboard ticking over. Any direct hit would put either runner in jeopardy and unfortunately for James he succumbed to a direct hit from Ajay, departing for
11. 50 for 4 off 8 overs. Next in was Nathan who didn’t hang around for to long either. He was done by the slowness of the wicket, stumped for 5. 65 for 5.Next in was Alan Fisher
who smacked a quickfire 8 before suicidaly running HIMSELF out, (no fault of Nicks), 80 for 6 off 11. So with the game finely in the balance next to the crease was Gary Dell.
As a new player this season his credentials were largely unknown. Initially he nudged the ball round picking up 1s and 2s as Winterbourne closed in on their target. 89 for 5 off 12. The thirteenth over was a decisive
one as Nick picked up the single on offer Gary decided to take the bowling on swinging magnificently across the line for two twos and a four. This was added to with 4 wides and suddenly Winterbourne
only need one off the last 2 overs. Fittingly Nick placed the 1st ball into the gap for a single to win the match, finishing unbeaten on 43 with Gary’s very purposeful 13 no. (Batsman beware this man should be going up the order)
3 wins on the trot boys, dare i say it, we fielded really well everything seems to be improving all the time. Lets keep this up and win our next game. :-)
