Report
This was the first home weekend fixture of the season against Lechlade, where we played for the Kiwi cup. Having not won for a couple of
seasons it was surely our turn to regain what was rightfully ours...
On a fine afternoon the skipper lost the toss and we were asked to bat. Nick and Wayne opened the batting and put on 41 for the first
wicket with Wayne making 24. Next it was a steady partnership between Andy and Nick before Nick was bowled for 35, 94 for 2
The old addage ran true as 1 brought two as Andy fell for 16, 96 - 3. Then two brought 3 as G Nell went for 4. Was this the start of the great
Winterbourne collapse? Apparently not as Nathan and Des steadied the ship and put on a 100 partnership before both batsman were bowled, Des for 40, just before the hailstones fell from the sky and Nathan
for 48.
The tail wagged as Winterbourne picked up a few runs of the last couple of overs and finished off on 198 - 9
So the target for Lechlade was 199 off 40 overs, 4.98 runs per over. Good tight bowling from the opening pair of Pete and Ian saw the visitors reduced
to 58 for 4 from 16 overs, with Ian taking all four wickets and then taking him self off (jug avoidance? ). With an ever increasing run rate Lechlade never got going and Phil Catling and Mark Watling
cleaned up the tail as the visitors were all out for 89 off 27 overs.
First victory of the season lads, let keep it up. (still slightly worried about the drop catches though)
