Report
So on a sunny evening in Swindon, Nick managed to lose the toss again and W H Smiths put us into field. With 12 players ready
to play ,The match winner from last week Des, kindly stood down. (Was this to do with the extremely green pitch we were playing on?)
The Openers Ian and Pete started well keeping the scoring well down below 5 an over. Sharpie bowled their opener without troubling the scores.
Next in was Bullock, unlike the others he looked in control and scored runs freely. The other Opener perished to Pete caught by James at deep mid off.
Having bowled there five over allocation WH Smiths were on 57 for 4 off 10. Next into the attack was Nick who first over went well, only conceding 5 runs.
Phil bowled from the other end and was unlucky not to have Bullock caught behind as his son dropped a difficult chance. The visitors looked to be well contained on 82
from 14 overs but an appalling bowling display from Nick saw 24 runs from the last over and boosted Smiths to a respectable 106 from 15.
So with the challenge set winterbourne strode to the crease looking to chase down this target. The opening bowler was difficult to play on this pitch with the ball keeping low
and moving all over the place as Winterbourne made slow progress. James got into his stride against the other opener hitting two fours before unluckily being given out LBW for 9.
15 for 1. Next to the crease was Pete Martin and he and Nick continued to keep the board ticking over pinching quick singles in the field. Things were looking good until a lazy shot
by Nick on the leg side resulted in him being bowled for 17. 44 for 2. Next in was Pete Mathews who took a while to get going before hitting the ball around. Unfortunately Pete Martin again managed to get out to a ball that had four
written all over it. Pulling it to square leg only to be caught by the fielder’s trousers. Next in was Andy Dodson who didn't look comfortable to start with against the slow spin of Bullock.
Pete Mathews finally got going hitting twos and fours before being bowled by the spinner. 78 off 12. With 28 required of the last three big hitting Alan fisher strode to the crease. The 13th over went for just 6 leaving the score precariously
Balanced on 84. The 14th over was better for us as we managed 11 from it bringing the score to 95. So 8 balls to go and 12 needed, Winterbourne got off to a great start with three wides off the first ball 9 off 8. The next 2 balls went for singles,
7 off 6. The following two balls however went for dots and the pressure built. 7 off 4. The next ball the batsman scampered 2 leaving 5 off 3. The following two balls Andy and fish scampered singles leaving a simple equation, 2 off 1 to win. Andy got bat on it but unfortunately the
fielder stopped it and ran to the wickets Winning the game and running Andy out in the process.
Unlucky guys we were on the right end of the result last week, this time we were unlucky. I would like to take this opportunity to
apologise for the awful bowling display in the last over. Big game next week then :-)
